Hi, i remember when i was reading up on computer science sometime during the middle of last year, there was something liek "Higher Computing 1" or 1a or something available in first year. Now that im selecting my course i cant seem to find or see these choices. Are they still available or have they become redundant?

Thanks for any help.

^ yeps same here, it happens when I choose the COMP variant of ENGG1000, I read in another thread that you just ring enrolment support up and they will fix it up. btw does anyone know what kind of projects are done in the COMP and ELEC ENGG1000 courses?

I'm wondering the same thing, is intro to engineering a prerequisite to a lot courses such that I would be placing myself at a dissadvantage by not doing it? Also, is it possible to pick higher math 1a/1b even if you didn't get 186+ on ext1+ext2 math? and if it is possible and I choose that, is it possible to drop down to normal math 1a/1b sometime during the year since the contents will be pretty much the same?

I did ENGG1000 comp stream first semester 2006 and it was heaps of fun. I highly recommend it (any stream) to anyone doing eng. Last year for the comp stream, we built a lego train track and some some software to make the whole thing run, to optimise how much money your train could make buy picking up and dropping off goods along the track.

The ELEC stream had 2 projects, one was to make a system that could use LEDs to send bits over a couple of meter distances, the other was to make a regulator attached to a motor that would rotate a little plank of wood so that it would always face into the wind.

ENGG1000 is awesome because it lets you do stuff that you normally wouldn't study till 2nd or more likely 3rd year, and you get to do it all in a big group and make heaps of friends. Awesome course.

For 1131/1141, yes you can do higher even if you don't make the 186+ cutoff, noone will check and its only a rought guide. IIRC, you have 2 or 3 weeks leeway to move between the two of them until you are stuck.

I sent an email to the CSE faculty yesterday and they replied with

We are looking into this at the moment. You will need to enrol into
your other courses for S1 2007. This problem should be rectified
middle of next week.

Sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.
So worry bout enrolling in ENGG1000 later i guess.

Ok ive finally finalised my course enrollments.

I understand the stupid ENGG1000 clashes with itself, but for some reason MATH1141 are showing up as clashing..even though they dont.. Is this the same for anyone else?

Try just choosing week 1 and the red clash parts go away, it was there before because all weeks are selected by default.
I managed a Mon-Thurs timetable as well and have 7 hours on Thursday

Beware that for maths, you cannot change your tutorial timeslot just by changing it on myunsw. You will have to contact the school separately.

Does the COMP stream of ENGG1000 only have one 'Tutorial-Laboratory' class? - cos other streams have like Tutorial1 and 2.
