genuinely wondering if there is an easier way to do this because i try to do z = x+iy and then i get a really ugly thing to = 0 that i can't even get so i'm not sure

Im(z+1/z) = Im(z+zconj/|z|^2) = 0.
b = b/|z|^2.
|z| = 1.
