Hey everyone,

I'm looking to transfer from UOW to UWS next semester. Can anyone tell me what it's like? I'm looking to do Business at Parramatta (hopefully Commerce/Business or International Business) and I'd like to hear any comments on the course, campus or UWS in general.

Much appreciated,
Pam.

hey pam

i do B Business (HRM and IR)/B Laws...so i cant comment on the specific course but some subjects and people o'lap with my classes..

so i can tell you that ther workload for business as far as assignments goes is pretty light - longa s your organised it shouldnt be a problem.
Have a lecture and a tute for each unit once a week, so only 3 hrs at uni per unit which isnt too bad.

Lecturers are pretty open and )for the most part) really friendly and they make understanding subject matter really straightforward. People are mostly friendly and nice and in on etute of mine in particular everyone gets on and everyone helps each otehr out so its really cool.

Campus isnt as exciting as some of the bigger unis but theres plenty of stuff goin on and always plenty of people around. Parra doesn have a gym unfortunately but we got a few sports field, volleyball nets set up, bar, cafe rec hall.

Parking's a bitch but they're fixing up the car park atm so should be better soon.

Library and online resources are really good for business stuff. Library runs research skills classes too if you're havin probs, as do the student support centre.

Far as your particular major, i have no idea since i dont do em:) but have a look on the website - www.uws.edu.au - or give the uni's student call centre a buzz coz there's a lot of students tehre from a whol range of courses that can give you some info. THe numbers on the website...can't remember where exactly.

Thanks Lara, that helped heaps.

Korn - anything and everything you want to tell me. I see you're doing Accounting (which I definitely don't want to do) is that the only way you can go with Bus/Comm or does it lead to other career paths too? If not, I'll probably be changing preferences because Bus/Comm is my first whilst Intl Bus is my second. I'm happy to hear anything you want to tell me about the units you've taken and will take etc. You can PM me if that's any easier.

Thanks so much.

Well Management Foundations is quite good and I have so far got 22/30 for an essay that was considered quite hard.
You do an essay (2000 words) & a case study (3500 words) I hear the content of the assessments change each year and each session

parramatta is the most popular and populated campus in uws...but its also very peaceful and so on. there is a cafe and bar, and a retail sotre soon (newpapers/stationary/merchandise) so its alright. no arcades or much that do go on, but many excursions and stuff e.g. drink the pub dry, ski trips, sports clubs like martial arts and frisbee, basketball, tennis etc...
food: well it depends...i reccommend the cafe for food because its looks and is preesented better than the place at the bar but thats my opinion.
parra doesnt have any accomodation on campus which is something you need to know.
we are close to the river, though no ducks or anything :(
and right in th emiddle we have this great big heritage listed thingy that uws is waiting for it to crumble so it can build something new on it...
umm, rumours are there is a ghost on campus but ive never seen it....

the courses:
B B&C has many majors available and is flexible and versatile: gives you a good background in business i.e. all the intro biz subjects in first year.
B IB: dont know, a friend is doing it and says that some subjects are hard but he wasnt specific...

hope that helps.

klh - stop talking up parra :p its a hole. Its too damn noisy - i can't hear a word the lecturer says in class and when I want to use a computer I have to literally bash people to get one.

Hawkesbury > Parramatta :p

oh dear, I'm gonna die now :p

grrrrrrr!!!!
im not talking up parra: as you can see i disagree that parra has no arcade, when usyd does, there are no ducks, food isnt the most appealing at times....
yes it can be noisy, and you do have to bash others sidways to get a comp....i forgot to add that some of the desk/chairs suck becasue they are to small...
but parra has its good points, if your class is in the quieter regions of the campus than its easy to hear the lecturer e.g. building EM, its quite social, losts of green space to sit under and so on. cant think of any to add.

cape: inter-campus relations not your strong side i see...

I've still got 2 group assignments to do, and an individual assignment :(

But for environment and tourism management our lecturer has given us the next two lectures off so we can work on our assignment, because its a mini project like a third year research assignment.

The one i'm working on now - I'm literally doing the whole thing by myself :( only cause someone else in our group has a major assignment due tomorrow and the assignment relates to another subject i do.

*sigh* I'm blabbing :p

I know what populated means, and I find that weird since Parra is pretty small... So they have more people than Penrith??

Yeah.... I'm thinking Penrith campus has the most people, since it's split into Werrington & Kingswood, and both are pretty large campuses.
