its probably split 50-50....
weigh up both aspects (marks and extra curricular) and get a blend.
for actuarial...i would definitely agree that higher marks (especially in maths) will play a more considerable role in the selection process...mainly due to the difficulty in actually completing the degree and high dropout rates.....though extra curricular should still have some role to play

Hmm well I dont know about engineering but I'm sure that a lot more than 200 would apply for commerce. A guy I spoke to doing Co-op said they usually let in 20 people a year for actuarial studies alone.

i dont know much about engineering..maybe check the co-op webct
www.co-op.unsw.edu.au

a lot more than 200 people apply for commerce...there were 450ish applications just for actuarial last year..and actuarial would have less applications than stuff like accounting (i think).

Do you know around how many people actually get to the interview stage for actuarial?

The Bachelor of Accounting (www.bachelorofaccoutning.com) scholarship is basically looking for exactly what they say on their website...
Marks are sooo not as important as leadership skills, an interest in accounting, team work skills, initiative skills etc etc....
Marks are not as important!
My cousin applied... but after her interview she didn't get a place...
Then the UAI results came out...

...she got 100 UAI

Email the ppl at the www.bachelorofaccounting.com website and they forward your emails onto students in the course...
I've had a few emails already...
SO yeah hurry cos applications close end of September!

Not fun if mine's one that gets culled

I think if I dont get through to the interview process, it'll be because of results because I've done a fair bit of extracurricular stuff

would the order of your UAC preferences matter? for the actuary coop u have to apply for b.comm to get it. wat if u have that as like your 4th preference? because i have b comm/science before that one. if i do get the coop can i jst forfeit bcomm.//science and get into bcomm?

yes you can before session starts
there should be a first year commerce open day with lectures and info on different courses
on that day the head of commerce should be there to talk about this
people who wish to drop to just commerce should talk to her on that day
open day this year, she did mention something about it been more difficult to drop science once session starts

Yeah it just sucks how you cant do a double degree with co-op. However, I was told at the open day they dont mind if you have the double degree on your application in case you dont get the scholarship

don't worry a lot of people get interviews
the problem is that only a dozen will get chosen

Yes I'm very nervous hehe. For actuarial studies I think someone said earlier they take it down from a couple of hundred applications to around 60 for interviews... hopefully I'll get one though
