During class, when a teacher asks you and your class a question do you put your hand down and remain quiet while knowing the answer? I`ve been doing this for over several years now and I don`t know if I should become more outgoing instead of reserved because everyone that I see who answers questions in class posed by the teacher are always the teacher`s favourites as well. So should I? Because I am getting the impression that my teachers are seeing me as someone that I am not i.e. stupid. (my English teacher thinks I'm a jingoist who is narrow-minded and selfish because I didn't put my hand up when she asked if I watch ABC and SBS news, which I do watch in fact!). I do ask questions though if I don't understand something. :)

Oh, and do you also participate in class discussions?

I always did, and continue to do so at uni. I don't think it matters too much, except where participation marks are at play.

You might get another teacher for Year 12, who knows?

me too. :D I won't say anything if I have to put my hand up. I'm reserved and I get embarassed easily; plus I can't be bothered.

I don't participate - I like to listen to what others have to say.

yeh i do... they normally appreciate it, but be careful because i normally end up in an argument with mine, especially my religon teacher last year, with his brilliant ideas on how the earth began...

exactly...

If I have to wait and put my hand up to present my opinion/argument then I wouldn't bother lol... my teachers are always cool and we just interrupt each other. I love class discussions, especially for English (they are a godsend on understanding texts in many different ways).

i only answer difficult questions..

easy questions i let others answer so i dont look like a teacher's pet wannabe
(otherwise id be answering to many questions)

depends on what teacher i have. some just are soo intimidating that you just cant seem to talk to them, even on a personal level. other than that yes i do put my hand up to answer questions but not for general discussion... i cant be bothered for that and i tend to zone out when others start talking =/

i generally dont speak up in class unless its english...i never used to until my year eight english teacher called an interview with my parents and told them that she thought i needed to see 'someone'...the nutter thought that i was depressed! not my fault i kept quiet because she yelled at anyone who did speak. but yea if you do know the answer speak up...otherwise people will get the wrong impression.

I occasionally answer questions, and if I'm interested I will generally participate in a class discussion. I'm fairly quiet which has lead to a few report comments that suggest I should participate more :p

I think it is more a matter of personality then a yes/no issue. :D

Sometimes I do and sometimes I don't. I guess it basically depends on the teacher you have because some of my teachers never pick me to answer the questions even when I have my hand up,,,they basically ignore you. And no, I don't answer them all the time, just do it when i feel like it.

i often answer... if you know the answer to a question a teacher asked, why not answer it? duh. :D
and if i don't understand something, i make a point to ask the teacher about it... but mostly after class time, because admitting you don't understand something while most of the class do understand it is embarrassing! :p haha.
