Christmas - does it mean anything to you? (1 Viewer)

Personally christmas is largely a celebration for children, it has no particular importance to me, I do not have a large extended family so its not like it's even a family get-together. What are other people's thoughts?

well i only live with my mum, shes emancipated herself from her family, therefore leaving us with no extended family.
but it still has meaning for us. we woke up earlyish this morning, unwrapped all our presants.
yesterday we went to her best friends place for turkey dinner, which we do every christmas eve. and we swap presants and drink too much alcohol.

so fun.

I spent Christmas Eve at a funeral, and Christmas Day with my extended family who flew down from Malaysia for the funeral. Today (Christmas Day) is my Father's birthday, and by father, I don't mean the stupid christian concept of father, but my Father Father, who raised me.

As a Christian (Not a very religious one I might add), It is the significance of the birth of Christ which is most important. But what I have noticed it has become commercialised and has lost its focus somewhat, but then again some of the values are still present (no pun intended) there such as the unity of family and friends, giving, joy and love which are the most imporant aspects of Christmas.

I don't really care at all. I tried to keep my net expenditure to 0 or even tried to make a profit off X-mas. I was more or less successful. To me X-mas is a big annoying thing at the end of the year. This year it's particularly annoying because I'd rather be out trying to get a job and making money which at the moment is infinitely more important than the BS values this tawdry holiday tries to espouse to clear the guilt of all those that have been pricks all year

i'm a Christian, but its the unity and family values at Xmas that mean stuff. Getting around a table sharing all the wonderful things you've accomplished all yr, searching for a present that will mean something to the person you give it to, watching carols, and of course dancesport championships

Christmas for my family is celebrated in the true meaning of the world - church and family celebrating. And by family I just mean my parents, sister and myself. We have the christmas tree up, a not-so-traditional christmas eve dinner (some cool Viet food and ice-cream pudding) but no presents really. Presents are sort of all-year round; that is, whenever we need stuff or something takes my fancy.

Church was heaps fun! It was a children's mass so the kids were dressed up as angels and shephards and the choir was full of shrilly voices singing at the top of their lungs.

I'm agnostic, but nonetheless see Christmas as a day for sharing, loving and being with family. It's also Humphrey Bogart's birthday.

Being a catholic the most important part is celebrating Christs birth. My family has gotten over the whole christmas tree and decorations especially since everyone in my house are not young any more. Christmas day in my family is usually spent going to church in the morning or midnight on christmas day, then about an hour calling all family around Australia and world and then spend the whole day with my family in Sydney.
