Hi I'm in yr 10 and choosing subjects for year 11.
I'm very interested in learning about anything related to animals, plants or things around them. And I'm an David Attenborough fan :D
Well anyway I'm most definatly choosing. Biology. But I was wandering is chemistry a biology related sciEnc topic?
Im also interested in how things react. Like in masterchef, how food react wih each other I find quite interesting :) is that chem related?
I also think I should do senior science since skills wise I would do well! However I also want to learn about biology! But skills wise I would not do well! Hahahaha! If I do bio it would be challenging for me!

Reasons why i don't think I should do chem/bio
• I suck at English :( like really bad reading and writing skills
• Memory sucks
• I think chem would be really hard coz it involves a lot of scientific thinking ( im not good at that)

Well I'm In a knot!! I can't decide ahhhhhh! Help :)

Dw about ur english skills, i improved it greatly during my HSC (u can do this in year 11 :))

Bio, need regular revision, LOTS AND LTOS AND LOTS of rote learning and memorising is required....

Chemistry, quite a lot of rote learning, not as much as biology. chemistry requires more understanding - which reduced the amount of rote learning! (many people say chemistry is difficult to understand). In preliminary chemistry, i had so much trouble undersntanding anything, this is because my base knowledge (from year 10) was so crap (50% average). When HSC came, i was ready to suit up, refresh my brain and restore it. After every chemistry lesson, i went home and read it over and studied it (30-60min) - and to be honest, it helped me remember things without using energy to rote learn and cram.

Choose everything, and drop the one u dont like for hsc

HSC is way better than preliminary

BTW, dont feel sad or embarrassed because ur not good at scientific thinking. When i was in year 10, my life was downhill man. i didnt even understand anything, i didnt even study, i watched movies and played games all day

Year 11 is the year when u start refreshing ur mind and start getting ur act together, so u can prepare for HSC

I would say go for it if you want to do those subjects. I'm sure you can always change your subjects in the first couple of weeks if you don't like them. Biology is very English related and does require a lot of reading and writing whereas Chemistry involves some problem solving but those can be the skills you develop over the year (which would assist you in other subjects also). However, it comes down to the hard work you put in and whether you try to improve.
