I need help plz! im in yr 11 and i need to do a small assignment but i am having heaps of trouble:
I need to find the following answers to these questions regrading NITROGEN.
PLz if you could help in any way it would be much appreciated!

1. The name of the naturally occurring mixture.
2. What the mixture contains.
3. The separation technique used to separate the mixture.
4. State the properties used to separate the mixture.
5. State the products of the separation and their uses.
6. Outline the issues associated with the wastes of this separation technique.

I don't understand the questions, what nitrogen mixture are you talking about? Like NO2 or NO or N2O or HNO3?

no2 isnt a mixture.. it's a pure substance.
possibly it's talking about air.. that's a mixture with nitrogen in it yeah =)

That's very true indeed.. it follows that:

2. Nitrogen: 78.08%, Oxygen: 20.59%, Argon: 0.93%, CO2: 0.03%, Other: Neon, Helium, Krypton, Xenon (concentration varies as the altitude changes, these figures are obtained at sea level)

3. Fractional Distillation (also: Fractionation) or Condensation

Should do 4-6 yourself go and find out about fractional distillation and you will know the answers to 4-6 (provided that you know 2 and 3). come back if you need help figuring those out

Okay, as you have asked, here it is, but I'm not going to tell you everything otherwise you won't learn anything (umm.. it's rather ironic.. but anyways..) Fractional distillation/condensation utilises the difference in /boiling point condensation point of different substances to separate them. In fractional distillation, the mixture begins as a liquid whereas in condensation the mixture is a gas initially.

Okay, how 4 is answered for you, think about 5 and 6... This information should be able to assist you to finish this assignment good luck!

6 is really easy Loula! Think about what is your source of Nitrogen in this experiment? You are taking Nitrogen (only) from your source, that means other components must be the waste Now you have to assess whether these are wastes or not
