Checking Blind Spots when turning (1 Viewer)

This is what it says in the Guide to the Driving test:

Turning left – looking for pedestrians,
bicycles and motorcycles that could be
beside you in your blind spot.
Turning right – looking for vehicles​

that may be overtaking you.

I don't think many people actually do this. Does it mean if you are turning left to look over your left shoulder or turning right, look over your right shoulder?
I wasn't told to do this by my instructor.

Yes you have to check your blind spot when you wish to turn/merge in a direction. I had a couple lessons before my test and the instructor said to check your blind spot every time you indicated.

Yes, I check my blindspots everytime I wish to make a turn. I also check the rear view mirror occasionally to keep track of all the cars around me.

In the test you have to turn your head and check your blind spot in all those instances. You're also meant to do it if you're moving one metre away from the kerb or the middle lines.

I didn't know you had to check your blind spot if you're *turning* right. What exactly are you looking for? I understand that for turning left and merging though.

i got a bit confused with this aswell.
- if your at an intersection turning left (your in the left lane, right up against the kerb), there will be no need to check your blind spot, just check to see if there are pedestrains crossing road.
- however if your turning into the left hand lane, then yes, check your blindspot.
- if your at an intersection turning right , just check to see if there are pedestrains crossing road or oncoming cars.

i think its for the purposes of checking whether theres any cyclists beside you wanting to go past but aren't careful enough. i learnt MISS as well, and it worked for me in the examination.

The new Provisional licence test is all about observation. Even if you don't legally have to look over your shoulder and check your blind spot. Just do it.

It will show the instructor that you are actually looking around and anticipating.

You need to ANTICIPATE what may happen. This is via observation. (<<< you also need to have good reactions)
