As the thread says, does this certificate offer any benefits for future employment opportunities in the field of economics/finance/engineering?

To be honest all the fields you have listed are pretty competitive, even for those with a degree. I don't think your chances of landing a decent paying job are too high with just a certificate.

The good news however, is that if you're really keen on going into these areas, you can use your certificate to leap frog into a degree. At Macquarie Uni for example, you're able to get into SIBT college and complete a business diploma. Once done (and with the proper GPA), you're eligible for admission into a commerce degree at the uni and you also receive exemptions for a good portion of the subjects you've already created. Other unis have similar schemes.
