The VR6 is a narrow angle V6 having an enclosed angle of just 15 degrees (a normal V6 is 60 and a V8 is 90) and interestingly it also has a single head as opposed to two seperate ones.

The VR6 design forms the basis of the W engines which are essentially two VR engines combined eg W8 = 2xVR4, W12=2xVR6, etc etc.

interesting....the W12 (and W8) now make so much more sense....

What can I say I have a bit of a family background in VW...

Easy:

The year the last VW Beetle (eg as opposed to the new 'ikon') rolled off the production line:
A)1988
B)1993
C)1978
D)2003

Hard:

What is meant by independent suspension and how does an anti-roll/sway/stabiliser bar effect it?

i knew something about the W arrangement but never heard of the VR.

hoping to get this wrong: C, well the anti-roll bars i know about from convertibles, how the hard or soft tops some don't have the A-strut thing for the window. the top holds the width length of the car stable on turns so the weight of the car isn't throw around sideways. i don't know why that's a bad thing unless too much weight is on one side till the car rolls and flips on it's side. so the bars are placed on front engine cars and in the boot or whereever in the front parallel to the thing that holds the wheels to side. hmm... independent suspension... dunno about all that double wishbone or whatever i'm guessing the suspension might be in some way connected directly to the sway bars. maybe it stiffens the body.

D) - i think they were still making some in mexico or somewhere like that until recently.

hmm ill give it a try...independent suspension is when each wheels suspension is not attched to the other wheels suspension. the anti roll bar effects it by giving each suspension on the wheel a diffrent loading at diffrent times.

let me see

well, D)

independant suspension, all wheels have are separate suspension units from one another (compared to live axle, where a common beam influences both sides)

and ergh...antiroll bars, they transfer force from a loaded wheel to the other side, therefore levelling the car :p

thats all i've got

Yeah Braads got the edge on shorty.

A sway bar basically reduces the independence of the opposite suspension and thus helps keep the car level when cornering eg less bodyroll so faster safer cornering.
