Not including publicly owned corporations.

Neoclassical economics is logical, perhaps just not entirely exemplified...

Edit: There probably is I'm just too lazy to research.

Anti Trust laws and 'Competition' laws are unnecessary.

There is no need to enforce 'no cartels', because cartels creates the incentive for some other player to step in to the market. As long as you aren't being forced to buy a product (coercive monopoly) there is no problem with a business charging whatever it wants to.

There is no need for a business to be cut back down just because it has a large market share. There is nothing 'wrong' with being better than your competitors such that people flock to buy your product.

In the case of big companies who just undercut small ones to stop them from getting a foothold in the market, once again, its the consumers who benefit here from the low prices. Let's not forget the big companies have to cut down on their own profit margins or decrease their production costs to be able to do this anyway. As for the 'little mom and dad' stores, there is no guarantee of being able to operate in whatever industry you want to, there is only the opportunity of doing so.

Socialism especially Communism have nowhere to go except towards capitalism. This new Law just passed in China shows Capitalism(especially American style) is the way to go ;)
BBC said:
China passes new law on property

China's parliament has wrapped up its annual session, passing a landmark law to increase private property rights.
It also approved a bill ending preferential tax treatment for foreign firms, setting a standard rate of 25%.

Premier Wen Jiabao ended the session as he had begun it last week, promising a move to more sustainable growth.

He also raised issues such as corruption, regional ties and international fears over China's military build-up.

Contentious law

China's leaders have been struggling for decades to enact a law to cover private assets - seen an important step away from Communist collective ownership and towards a market economy.

But some legislators feared that while the new property law would undoubtedly increase protection for home owners and prevent land seizures, it would also erode China's socialist principles.

In fact, according to Daniel Griffiths, BBC correspondent in Beijing, this has been one of the most contentious pieces of legislation introduced in China in recent times.

But despite the concerns, when it came to putting the bill to the vote, 99.1% of the 2,889 legislators attending the NPC backed the property law.

The tax legislation - designed to wean China off an export-driven economy dominated by the manufacture of cheap goods - was passed with only slightly less support.

These high percentages are not unusual. The parliament - the National People's Congress (NPC) - meets just once a year and is largely a rubber stamp to endorse the policies of the ruling Communist Party. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/6456959.stm

communism is irrelivent. sure it might have been a "good idea" on paper. the idea that "everyone is equal" but that may be true before the law, or in human rights issues .but it is surely not true in economic issues... Human nature is to be better then everyone else. therefore communism is never goin to work due to the lovely word called corruption. That is why we must lynch all alp candidates because alp = communism.

Communism is a despiciable belief which must be crushed. Human rights are expendable, and only the Aryan race and the people of Germany are better then everyone else.

Interesting. But I believe competition and anti-trust laws are needed in Australia. Australia is a very small market - and the chances of an outsider investing here is Small. In that case you cannot have Cartels - I mean they continue to exist and any newcomer will not enter the market.

But in countries like China where they used to have trust-laws and anti-competitive laws - it is unecessary. Because China is an investors dream.

Your forgetting a lot here - companies that using tactics to undermine new entrants such as low pricing schemes - will have drastic effect. Yeah short term benefit consumers will get cheaper products - but remember these consumers need work and money chances are by using such tactis you will increase unemployment rates you are shutting down employment oppurtinities and preventing investments. But good CEOs know this - and such will not engage in such acts and will instead buy their competitors - which is by far better method.

Castro in new US biofuel attack

Cuban leader Fidel Castro has written a second newspaper article within a week, again criticising US biofuels policy.

Writing in the Granma newspaper, Mr Castro said a US drive to back crop use for fuels would raise prices and cause more hunger in developing countries.

isnt it amazing the worlds most successful socialist country Cuba with 100% literacy, is the only country where doctors pull rickshaws, and rocket scientists are driving bullock carts and close to half the population are unemployed. Castro must be drooling over those maize fed to cattles in the US :D That is another success story for Socialists.

Communism in its purest form, the idea that lies in the very core of communism seems to be an attractive idea.. equality for all. But unfortuantely, like capitalism, it has its faults, and those faults cause a bigger negative impact than captialism does. The countries that do practice communism have been corrupted to the point where the 'equality for all' concept is diminished. Capitalism though, is far from perfect.
