Misread the title at first. Thought this was a thread on decapitation.

But taking another human life can never be justified IMO. Think about it, what if there is a teeny tiny possibility that the accused criminal is in fact innocent? Then wouldn't the prosecutors/jury/ sentencing judge all be considered manslaughterers, if not murderers for taking that man's life? I'd rather let a criminal walk free than to sentence a possibly innocent man to death, regardless of how horrendous the crime might be.

what is the point of killing someone who commits a crime during a mental break? the death penalty isnt going to deter anyone from murdering their family etc what is the point of it

To deter sane people who choose to commit premeditated murder and to send the message that they are not worth the oxygen they breathe.
