where in Canada are you thinking about doing an exchange? I recommend going to a large city like Vancouver, Montreal, Toronto. Way better. Canada is awesome..everyone loves australians.

I know that you posted this a fair time ago, so rpob wont see this and may hav alredy worked out exchange and stuff, but my mother is from Canada and did her commerce degree and got the Cpa accreditation and stuff at Queens University. Things will have chnaged a bit since we were there, but if you got any questions im happy to ask her.

Same goes for anyone else wanting to know about queens or canada in general (ive been there so many times):)

Oh awesome! Well if I do go on exchange it won't be until late 2009. I'm at USYD and the exchange partnerships they have with the Canadian unis are a bit dodgy. Some uni's only take students from certain faculties etc.

I've heard a lot about Queens from my bf's parents who are Canadian and studied law there. Sounds pretty sweet. Not too sure what USYD's partnership is like with Queens but I think they are more focused on Law?? I know theres a lot of restrictions for some unis, I went to an info day a few weeks ago.

I'm also considering Guelph uni because it has a more flexible partnership with USYD. But from what I've heard it's a bit, well, in country? Even though its an hour away from Toronto?

If you could tell me anything about Guelph that would be great :)

Oh actually i do know one thing! Queens does have a very good accounting program. My mum applied for the accounting program there bak in the day, which was quite prestigious as out of thousands of applicants only 200 are accepted each year, she JUST got in, so accounting there atleats is very in demand. Anyway, ill get much better information tomoro from the source herself :)

ok better info now for you apprentice - :)

Queens university specialisises predominantly in law and commerce, and to a lesser degree in engineering for which it is a top tier university. The way my mum explains it, Queens seems most like Uni of New south wales in terms of the areas it specialises in (if you aint from the gr8 state of nsw this wont help u, but...). Arts and science degrees arent as in demand, but its still quite good for them, probably just under the top tier canadian uni's for these according to my mum, but she knew a fair few people who chose to do them at Queens.

As a side note, the town queens is located in really relies on the university, as in, almost all the businesses in the area cater for the students and the faculty, the town itself has only really been developed as a result of the university, so basically everything there will be in someway connected. Board on campus is really common as a result, as not many people live there not attending uni and stuff, and a lot have to leave home, so yeah, there's dorm facilities are a big thing there so a place should be easy i think (i dunno if ur uni sets that up for you but i thought id add it anyway).

Guelph university is a bit out of the way from Toronto, about an hour's drive according to my mum (i think u said it was about a similar distance), its less respected, but is still a popular choice, and i rekon its comparable to UWS in Australia, as in its good, but not top tier and doesnt really specialise in anything in particular but is quite good across the board. She dusnt know much else though bout Guelph

errm....think i tried to say two things at once. It is located between montreal and toronto and was created to cater for both cities i believe, and the town economy and infrastructure is really university dependant, there we go!

Thanks so much for that!

yeah I knew that general info about Queen's location etc. Hmmmmm, equivilating Guelph to UWS makes it sound so unappealing. But I'm not really after academics, just an experience. I love travelling so I'll be happy no matter where I go, its just that my uni has a lot of restrictions in its partnerships with international unis, making my options pretty limited.

Thanks again for your effort, really appreciate it :)

I would love to study in canada.
But now the focus is on getting into uni.

Does anyone know if MQ has any ties with any canadian unis?
im planning on doing something economics related if that matters.

I'm not sure about Canada specifically but I know that MQ has a really good exchange program overall. Better than Sydney anyway.
