okay well ive decided to do my PIP on comparing online and offline socialisation and which is generally the better one or is there a healthy mix ...something along those lines...my cross cultural component will be china and how they have censored media so it may be harder to socialise online than in australia

can someone help me with my title i cant seem to think of anything=/

It might be a good idea to actually finish the project before thinking about irrelevancies like titles.

ok thanks im not too sure of what to start first ...ive heard that i should leave the intro till after i finish my pip...so how would i start the pip?... im really lost :s

yes, a lot of people say that, but personally i think a 'working' introduction is more practical, so write one anyway. First of all, have you started your research at all? If not, you need to figure out what questions you will be asking through your PIP and then decide what methodologies will allow you to best explore those questions (remember, you don't have to 'answer' the questions as such, but more explore them to their entirety).

If your having trouble figuring out what kind of questions you will be looking at, a good idea is to start off with a personal reflection (i always say this but i found it really helpful whenever i got stuck with my PIP). So what you do is just blurt out everything you can think of on your topic, dont worry about bias or spelling or political correctness, just write everything you think of, even if you go out on random tangents. In a way its kind of like free writing, but the point i9s to go back over and analyse your personal reflection later, figure out why you thought those things, and see if they can be worked into your PIP.

i havnt really started my research aside from asking people a few questions like what they think is good and bad about internet socialising...i also did a mindmap on the positives and negatives

ive thought about what questions i will use but im a bit confused about the whole chapter thing like how many chapters and what exactly is in a chapter...can i for example have one chapter on the positives and negatives of socialising on the internet and then another one on why people socialise on the internet,what it does for them ..and then another one on my cross cultural component which is online socialisation in china...are these how the chapters are meant to look like or am i doing it wrong?

You really do need to get a move on with your research and i think you really need to get some other questions happening apart from 'the positives and negatives of internet socialising'...

In terms of chapters, different people do things differently. Some people like to have many short chapters, others prefer to have none. I had four long ones i think. One thing i don't recommend is dedicating a single chapter to your cross cultural comparison, it really should be integrated throughout your entire PIP.

atm though, i wouldnt be stressing about this kind of thing, what you really need to be doing is your research methodologies, there's no point in trying to figure out how you will present your information if you haven't even got any yet.

er, are these questions for methodologies, or major questions you will explore in your PIP? Perhaps i didn't distinguish what i meant by "questions you will be asking through your PIP", i meant major concepts, as in something like.. 'Does culture impact the micro experiences of persons socializing on the internet'.

If you were to explore a question like that, the above questions you provided could be put into a questionnaire and distributed to people of different cultural backgrounds. This way you could compare their experiences and draw conclusions from your research, effectively answering the question.

do you see how your 'concept questions' have to have a deeper social meaning? rather than just- how often do people use the internet?
