For Business studies, are we required to have a case study/studies based on the entire course or just on one topic?

Thanks for any clarification :)

You are supposed to use the case studies across the entire course, across all 5 topics. You will need to apply case study material to support your assertions and the theory required by the question in Section 4 of the hsc paper. You do not have to use the same one or two case studies right across the entire course, however - you can use different case studies for different topics, as often some large companies lend themselves well to certain syllabus dot points.

haha, no problem! I'm glad I could help.

I did a variety of case studies, as I said was possible. I did case studies including Coca Cola Amatil, Billabong, JB Hi-Fi and Qantas, to name a few. I found that by using a wide range of case studies I was more prepared for Section 4, and it also gave me more material to draw on in answering questions, thus impressing the markers and allowing you to access the higher mark ranges. However, in saying that, if you think that you have a case study which adequately addresses a vast majority of the syllabus, you should stick with that but make sure you answer the question asked in depth to show off just how deeply you understand the business' strategies. hope this helps! good luck!

Thanks again :) that was helpful. I'll look into that when we get back to school. I do know that my school is doing the Qantas case study (but we haven't received this year's version or something). I'll suggest we do a variety, if not I'll look into it myself. Thanks! :D

Yeah, you might even be better off not suggesting you do a variety and just doing it off your own back. :)

Yeah, the extended response question for the 2010 HSC exam was quite difficult, for both question 27 and 28. I found that I also had to really push myself to get stuff down that was relevant to the question!

If you only pick one or two to cover everything you can go into more depth. However, you have to make sure you can answer everything that will be thrown at you. So the choice is yours as to how many to do. Just make sure you cover every area.

so it is possible to draw on several different case studies when you answer the last section questions. in class we are doing virgin blue as a case study and outside i have some notes on woolworths. is it worthwhile using both???

Yes, you can use more than one case study to answer a question. It's always good to at least prepare two. Only use more than one if you feel it enhances your response. That will really come down to the day.
