if people wanted a job outside of cities they would all be mining engineers
I'm not even going to get into that argument, I'll just say its about time people realised there's a hell of a lot of country outside of Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane and that food does not just magically appear on supermarket shelves...

Quit standing around and study hard!! Get into medicine. Easiest way out. There always a well paid job waiting for you on the other side.

Who wants to be a crap paid scientist in a lab 24/7 under a boss who probably did medicine and has an awesome title like Professor or Doctor?

If Bachelor of Science means unemployment, then I downright pity the people doing Bechalor of Arts.

Medicine probably shouldn't be characterised as an easy way to achieve a high income, but it is certainly a reliable way. You can bank on breaking $100,000 by the time you have completed post-graduate training (~5 - 8 years after the medical degree) and $200,000 further down the track (much more is available, of course, for those willing to go rural or who succeed in breaking into the more exclusive specialties).

(Edit: Salaries for staff specialists, who have completed post-graduate training, working in the NSW public health system)

Or you could do that, but more quickly, with engineering. Outliers abound, of course.

No, my beef was that he was making some sort of weird subordination association between Medicine and a Bachelor of Science, which is, to my knowledge, fairly unfounded. I say this as somebody who has brief exposure with the biotechnology industry.

Yes, I will be one of the scientists who will create these new G-Weapons called Gundams for a new era of war against the mobile suits operated by members of the Zodiac Organisation lead by an Aryan leader hell bent on taking over Earth and using the United Earth Sphere Alliance as a puppet.

(Gundam Wing reference)

Or I will also be one of the lead engineers who will lead the Astray project to protect the neutral nation of ORB and its ideals.

(Gundam Seed reference)

Or I will be one of the scientists responsible for modifying children's bodies and brains at a young age so they can outperform a natural human at least tenfold in combat.

(Gundam Seed Destiny reference)

Rock On

Pretty easy to crack $200 000k if you go rural after your degree, or locum for a while ($100+/hour). VMOs can hit $1 mill.
