Does your marks in the junior years in a particular subject determine how well you will do in that subject- for example if you are doing well in science does it generally mean that you will do 'well' in physics and chem. Or is it beter to choose a subject that you think that you think you'll enjoy more- but recieve lower(but above average) marks- for example i am just above the class median in COMMERCE- does that generally indicate that I will find it easier doing a science than 'economics or legal studies'?(but I find them more interesting than phys/chem).:cop:

No way does junior years determine how well you will go!

I got a band 4 in maths (my lowest mark in SC) and in prelim I came 4th in 2U - this meant I beat most of the extension class, and two of the students who picked up ext 2 maths.

I went with subjects I enjoyed (extension english, va, legal) subjects that teachers scared me into (chem and maths) and a subject because it was the only one which I wouldn't be crap at on that line (society - eww as if i'd do dance or pe)

So I don't think there's a 'right' way to pick subjects - just do what you think

Pick subjects you enjoy. You are more likely to do well in them and get the higher marks.

Atleast this wasnt another scaling thread

The first thing I got told when I walked into every class this year was "I doesn't matter what your marks in junior were, they aren't an indication of how well you'll go in senior subjects" =.=' so yeah, basically choose subjects that are a mix of what you enjoy doing and what you can see yourself doing well in

If you are good in a subject in junior years you arent neccesarily going to be good at it in year 11 and 12.

If you are crap (and by crap I mean really bad, not just average), chances are you will be crap at that subject in year 11 and 12.

So the point is, do subjects you enjoy, and stay away from subjects that you are really crap at, because it just gets harder.

Well if you've really put the effort in say for science in year 10, and you find your not getting at least average marks then it would be safe to say your probably not going to do well in physics and chem.

I admit I ended up choosing subjects which scaled higher (except PD/H/PE, because I knew I was going to drop it in year 12), but thats because the whole 'choose subjects you enjoy' theory, didn't work with me. I found that the teacher and the students around me affected me and also I knew that if I just put the effort into any subject I could achieve.

In saying that, i'm a person that gets bored easily, so I choose my subjects from completely different subject faculties, however if you like consistency and familiarity in your subjects, you might want to stick with the sciences or the social sciences, if that makes sense

Keep in mind you can change your subjects around at the start of year 11, I changed two of mine and i'm pretty happy with how everythings going :D
