serious answer: yeah i am in a similiar situation, ive managed to hold it together for about 6 months now, basically i dont mention them to each other and sometimes i hang out with one friend, other times i hang out with the other. One of them works days so he cant go clubbing during the week, the other works at a club, she cant go clubbing during the weekend, i go out wed and saturday nights so i can go out with both of them every week if i need to.

fridays we have a boys night, involving either going out or going to the movies or sitting in, eating pizza playing xbox stuff like that so obviously friend 2 cant come to that [being a girl and all] and then other parties, friend 1 intentionally excludes himself and doesnt go if friend 2 is going to be there so i get to hang with her at those times. Its actually pretty well balanced now that i think about it.

Hang out with friend 2. Just say to friend1 "im going out to .. here. Friend 2 will be there. Time and place here". Go out .
Ignore the entire situation. Don't argue, don't discuss, don't get emotionally involved. Be completely disinterested, not in 'friend1' but in their 'demand that you don't see friend2'. Usually this kind of demand is one of exercising control- and will happen more than once. They won't attempt compromise until you've actually shown them that they have to.

What I hate most about these situations is that once both people confront each other, the hostility is usually dispersed within 5 minutes (especially if alcohol is involved).

Its a little hard to not get emotionally involved in such a thing..
