Hi there, I am currently in year 11 and would like to know what Economics magazines are the best. I plan to subscribe to a magazine for a year to take me through the HSC and give me relevant and recent statistics/news on the economy so that I can improve my answers in the exams. Does anyone know of any good economics magazines that would be good for my situation? Also, how have people found this strategy in the past, does it actually help you?

Thanks in advance.

In my opinion, subscribing to a magazine is not worth it and the depth and the topics covered in such magazines are overall not appropriate for the Preliminary and HSC courses. Instead, I would suggest a good way to keep up to date with economic issues and all that is by checking SMH business section daily, just so that you remain on the lookout for articles that are relevant to any dot points or issues that have come across in your economics studies over the next two years. For example, you might bump into an article about Dutch Disease – and that comes up in Topic 2 of the HSC course – so that would be a good article to read. After reading it, it might be good to make a brief annotation in your textbook about a good statistic in the article or something like that. In particular, I would keep on the lookout for articles by Ross Gittins, as most of his articles are tailored well for HSC economics students and cover topics that are part of the syllabus.

That sounds like a really good process and thanks for the heads up about the author. I'll take you advice on board, sounds like it will help- especially the cross checking with syllabus part. Thanks a lot!

I love the Financial Review but it's a bit of an overkill, hard to get through if you are not interested. Other then that like mreditor16 said SMH and Gittins are good, our school sometimes grabs stuff from The Economist as well

Yeah I was thinking a subscription to The Economist would be good. Didnt realise how costly they were though. I might just use the SMH.
