Re: Best Chemistry Textbooks/Guides?

What's the cheapest?
I'd say excel. But that's just an assumption. I wouldn't really say it's the best textbook to use, but it suffices.

Macquarie is more a revision textbook. It covers a lot of the content, but the other textbooks are more in-depth and all. So I would expect Macquarie to be relatively cheap as well.

Re: Best Chemistry Textbooks/Guides?

I agree... sometimes it talks about things not in the sylabus for a whole page, but for things that are, it has like one paragraph only.

which excel might this be, i have the older orange 1 printed in 2001 i think... i dont like it.. it does not follow the sylabus layout and for some things just has point for... which excel do u use??

also which macmillan book is every1 talking about above... is it the maquarie revision guide 1....??
i like excel cos its straight to the point and it follows the hsc syllabus dot points unlike conquering chemistry which has a load of crap thats not related to the syllabus.

Then again, excel is only good for going over the basics and theory. For most the calculations and complex stuff i learn with my tutor! xD

Re: Best Chemistry Textbooks/Guides?

I used Jacaranda Chemistry. But I did borrow Chemistry in Contexts from the library, and it was quite awesome.

No need for anything else except past papers.

Re: Best Chemistry Textbooks/Guides?

i suggest chemistry contexts 2, it follows the syllabus more closely than conquering chemistry and conquering chemistry does not explain concepts as well, chemistry contexts is more detailed and precise :)

Re: Best Chemistry Textbooks/Guides?

I reccomend Jarcanda, it has more information Relevant towards answering the syllabus. And I'd place Macquarie~~ under Jarcanda, because it has missed out some information and goes on to small detail about it, BUt it's also good. I don't know about conquering chemistry, but i think it's a vague :/

Have you considered of borrowing the textbook from the library, it is in general much easier to study from a hard copy of a textbook compared to a soft copy of it.
