64-bit Windows 7 is great (what I'm running right now)...

He said there wasnt enough programs out in the market that is supported by a 64bit OS, not that there wasnt enough drivers for hardware.

I never said they didn't run well. What i meant is that many developers aren't writing programs that are designed to be used in 64bit operating systems. While there are programs out there that will run on a 64bit system, the majority of end users still use the x86 instruction set so developers aren't bothering too much at the moment.

I think 64bit is great, and i don't have a problem with the idea of it. I'm just saying that if you really want 4GB of RAM, then you will just lose a bit of functionality because you can't use all the programs that will work on 32bit.

Core i7 capable Motherboard with lots of extra slots to upgrade.
whatever Processor you can afford
DDR3 Ram... it's inordinately better than DDR2
Multiple 500GB HDD's... having multiple drives also means that if one dies, you can format the working drive and install your OS on it while you send off the other one and not have to wait until the HDD returns to get online and bitch about it (Oh and with Windows 7, from when you put the disk in to when you're online = approx 15 minutes)

You probably don't need to spend $196 on the case, seeing as if you do Overclock that processor to 3.3Ghz, this case will not be adequate anyways, and if you leave it as is, it's overkill... 3.3Ghz for this processor needs SERIOUS cooling...

Oh and buying an awesome Gaming Keyboard while having a shitty $22 mouse is kinda retarded...

This makes me think you guys have no idea what you're talking about:

1) Lots of extra slots? Wtf? ALL ATX motherboards have "lots of extra slots"..It's basically standard.

2)Well, if you get a i7 capable mobo, then the only cpu you can get is an i7!

3)No it's not

4) Multiple 500gb's is a stupid idea...Unless you want to RAID. It'd be best to have a boot disk and then raid two 1TB hd's

5) 3.3ghz is pussy speed (coupled with a small manu. process)...It would require an aftermarket air cooler at most, worth approx. 59 dollars.

6) No it's not...You can get a mouse later.

Windows 7 (i'm not even going to worry about vista) supports 3.5GB of RAM, adn unless you are going to be running intensive music editing programs or such there's no way you're even goin to need 4GB anyway.

I think 64bit (needed for the 4GB) is the way of the future, but at the moment its not worth it becase there just aren't enough programs that support it.

Yeah, I can't think of a motherboard which will take 192GB. From what I've seen 16GB is the maximum (not sure about DDR3/i7 systems).

I agree. 192GB is overkill for individuals like me and you. But consider someone who uses 3D modelling software (lightwave for example) simultaneously with Photoshop while 3 movies are converting in the background, 192GB is still too much however 32GB isn't.
