people are posting 85s for chem which scales a lil' better than physics

but then again it depends on how hard this years test is in comparison
to previous years

scaling has nothing to do with aligning...We are talking about aligning here ;)

A subject could have terrific scaling but have terrible aligining, e.g.
A student could get a mark of 55 and be aligned to 35 as their HSC mark, but the subject could still have terrific scaling because all the people who did that subject did extremely well in their other courses. It doesn't happen in practise, but it can happen

Back to the subject
I'd say low to mid 80s would get band six

im sick of people discussing scaling/ aligning / moderating / raw marks and ranks
or whatever... time could be better spend answering this thread :D

I think 75 is a little low...
But as Serge said:
" then again it depends on how hard this years test is in comparison

so its possible, But according to RAW marks from 2001, 2003 and 2004

I think an 80 would align to a 90.

on the contrary according to the RAW marks obtained it would seem unlikely that a RAW mark of 85 would only be algined to a 90.

Last year Acmilan got a RAW mark of 87/100 for physics which got aligned to 95/100, judging by that i would assume the band 6 cutoff in 2004 was between 79-83/100.

In 2001 Lazarus got a RAW mrak of 75/100 for physics which got aligned to 85/100... so in 2001 I'd say the band 6 cut off was somwhere between 80-83/100

I think the band 6 cut off isnt too different each year unless of course this yrs exam for some reason is extremely difficult and out of the ordinary, if thats the case then who knows, the band 6 cut off could be 60/100...hehe, but don't get ur hopes up!!!

and in 2001 only 3% got a band 6...
the band discriptors changed. so if you got 75 now, that would be a band 6.

Also notice his assessment mark ... how it changed from 76.5 to 88. so the scaling is not very linear.
that year it would have been less than 80.
Also 95 is a very decent mark in physics top 1% of candidates last yr.
so 5 marks below that will not mean only 7 raw marks.
also in 2003 ... 56 in physics got you a 79.
