I think i vaguely remember hearing that if you get a band 6 for a subject, scaling becomes irrlevent or at least barely changes your marks ie. it only really affects you once your makrks are in the lower bands...

is this true?

yeah that sounds about right.
If you do average, then i think you get scaled down massively, but if you get band 6 for just about any subject, then scaling usually isnyt relevant me thinks.
correct me if im wrong.

Depends what you get band six for.

E.g. if you get a band six in DAT, that'll be really different to band six in MX2.

Guess it's the nature of the game :S

Then your marks for 2u/3u Jap will not be likely to be affected by scaling. While others could get scale down. Scaling of one subject has no bearing on the others.

Band 6 is based upon scaled 90+ marks, aren't they?

So if your mark is band 6; its been scaled there.

No.
A band 6 = a raw mark that has been aligned (reported on your HSC certificate)
A scaled mark = the same raw mark that has been scaled (not reported to you, but is used for the calculation of the UAI)

*Note: a raw mark is a mark you actually got in the exam (not reported to you)
