hey guys~ this aint for me personally just asking on behalf of a friend.
just looking at the BA-Psych degree and in the whole of the first year theres only 3 core subs to do ie. psy104\105, and stat170. this means 2 subs first sem. 1 sub second sem.
any idea what other subjects they should do first and second sems?

yep. its stupid how there is only 3 cores in the first year, i wish they had more units psych related, or just made the degree shorter. Your friend has a large amount of units to do for electives. In terms of electives that sort of go with psychology in general, he might like to pick philosophy subjects, there are quite a lot of philosophy units to pick even in first year. Thats all i can think of that may help. If your friend enjoys science then that may help - psychology is scientific in nature - although sciences take up heaps of time so, unless he enjoys sciences, i wouldnt recommend them as electives.

I did humanities for my two electives; ANTH106 and SOC180. I have a passion for arts etc, hense my choice. I was also going to do a phil unit, but it didnt fit into my timetable. I've heard that the media ones are good too...

ANTH and SOC are relatively easy to get a Cr in, but it does seem to depend on your marker. SOC seems to be much more subjective, and they're really picky on terms and grammer; you can't suggest something without evidence, or they pounce upon it and say "well i dont think that"... whereas ANTH they give you the stats and info and you just have to regurgitate it in the exam. and the essay choices are really good too.

I'm not sure if Clairegirl did the same edu units as one of my friends, but one of the 100 level edu units involves learning songs (eg. twinkle twinkle little star) and how to make playdough figurines, which sounds pretty good to me! ;)

Pretty much the first year of psych is a bludge, so they should just pick subjects they're interested in and have fun! :)

ahhh thanks for the replies guys
my friends actually a girl but yea
yea i totally agree with first year psych being a bludge
i think it was atleast 18 cps needed to be considered a full time student so like im tryin to help her find other subs to do.
well she aint really interested in philosophy much. what other subs do u think she could dothat would like go with her degree?
i know if she was doin a BSc-Pysch theres plenty of science subs to do. but with a BA-Pysch anythin?
u dont really have electives to choose to major in do u?

i don't know if you knew, but i'll tell you just in case, even though your friend is doing an arts degree she can actually do sciences (or anything, excluding law) if she wanted to as electives. You may have known that already though, its just the way you said it, it seems you may think that because she is doing arts then she can't do sciences, thats not true if you thought that (i did when i started anywayz) :/

what electives can you choose in the BPsych degree, first year then (from both arts and sciences faculties?)- thats why i put down Bsc-Psych ahead of BA-Psych, lol- more B.S. elective options that may relate to psych (anatomy? biology?)

This is how i know it as being. I have read a lot of the stuff so its likely i am right, but then again, i could be wrong (if do, please say, anyone that knows im wrong)

BPsych is EXACTLY the same as Barts-psych and Bscien-psych for the first 3 years except for one second year unit (which, if your like me, you can pick as an elective anywayz). Now with all of these degree, your major is psychology... psychology is seen as a science and an arts and you are free to pick whatever electives, be it from sciences or arts. That is, Barts-P and Bscience-P are exactly the same thing.

Up to 3rd year you can actually mimic from the degrees the Bpsych framework anywayz (so if ur gpa is good enough u can do 4th year, that is Bpsych, with no problems or drawbacks). doing a Bscience-P gives you no more of a variety of units than had you picked Barts-P.

I havent seen anything that says otherwise, and i am pretty sure this is correct, but if anyone knows im wrong please say.

if your considering law, you have to have a gpa of 2.0 and have a pass or better in the 2 first year law units. then you have to apply for a trasnfer and hope you make the quota

uh wasn't there an interview process for b. hrm? if there was, maybe you'll be successful and get a spot......

oh and i'm not sure if you can transfer to b. hrm....
it wasn't listed in this session's transfer.. i'm assuming you want to transfer internally....
it might be listed after first semester considering it is a new course and all...
