Re: Olympiads

The physics one was alright. (Attempted circuit, donkey, pulley, waves)

I get the feeling the cutoff will be comparitively high. Hoping for ~50-60%

Also doing biology one Wednesday...

Re: Olympiads

Biology Olympiad was crap, Q46 was screwed. They changed the structure of the exam, so pisssed off!!! Everyone except me walked out after an hour at my school. They've changed the types of questions, their were more calculation questions than i expected, more emphasis on enzymes, etc. I'll prob manage to scrape a credit or a distinction.

Re: Olympiads

Hey... I'm a newbie... but yeah I did the Bio Olympiad today at school... and I'm not sure how I went really... it was okay I suppose... the other four people who took it with me (three guys from our brother school... and one girl from our school) didn't study at all... I did a bit of revision and practise... not sure if it was worthwhile cramming for it though...

Hey welcome to BOS, did you notice the error in Q46? It says it had shaded parts in the question for the diagram.

Do u go to a Victorian or Canberran school? Do you know what mathematical methods is equivalent to in the HSC

Re: Olympiads

Yeah... there was an error in Q46... I just stuck down that it was autosomal recessive... because I figured it was all white :p... which was a pretty lame thing to do... I made so many mistakes in it...

I go to a school in Tasmania... basically there are three types of maths that are for uni qualification in Tasmania... Maths Applied, Maths Methods and Maths Specialised... Maths Applied is like finance and stuff... Maths Methods is pure maths and a lead on to Maths Specialised which is even more pure maths... I'm not sure what equivalent that is to you guys.

Re: Olympiads

That was q43 by the way. The screwed up pedigree.

Our school just told us not to do q33 (the three variable graph) and q43. I think I should've shaded something in anyway.. argh.

The long answer ones were okay. They changed the format again!

The average (mean) mark doesn't really mean much. Getting 'above average' won't get you in a camp. Plus there's probably a huge difference between median and mean. In my opinion.

Re: Olympiads

Then you'd have to go super dooper well to even get a look into a camp? As in like 100%?

Re: Olympiads

Well alot of you sound confident of scoring well. Im be over the moon if i get a credit. By the way i did the donkey, water/hose, circuit and the inetia questions. But im quite positive that the Chem one this Wednesday will be twice as hard. But i miss 2 hours of class, so i dont mind.

Re: Olympiads

Nah... I'm pretty sure I didn't score well at all... I didn't do as much preparation as I should have... but I don't know, somehow in my mind I always seem to class Bio as easier than Chem and Physics

think the cutoff for physics will be 60% this yr, compared to 40% or so usually. the circuit and donkey questions were give aways

Re: Olympiads

What the hell are you talking about cutoff's their are no cutoff marks, the top 23 students of each ASO NQE are invited to go to Canberra.

That implies that there is a cutoff. The lowest mark that will get you in the camp. And it's not exactl 23.

(Did you mean for the camp?)

People at our school were saying it'd be mid-twenties. (Out of 50.) I'm hoping for 25-30. Hopefully.

I didn't do chem today. How was it?
