Julie Bishop is horrible to watch on TV and in parliament. All she cares about is fucking up Gillard. It's hilarious.
I think we're being a bit personal here Slidey. When she was education minister she used to come off a bit icy but I think she's sorted that out now. That plagarism business was a bit embarrassing but not really as far as political mistakes go and her stint as shadow treasurer was as much undermined by Turnbull as anyone else because the brilliant man wanted to be doing all the talking about economic policy. She's ok, better than Abbott for sure.

It's in no way over for Rudd - it's reasonably normal for a first term government approaching election day.

That said, I wouldn't mind if he were deposed. Preferably by Gillard rather than Abbott.
Gillard's got the numbers. If Rudd wins the election Gillard will knife him within a month or two.

They'll spin it as him losing control and then Gillard will take the helm.

Gillard at best has conditional numbers: eg if Rudd loses more than 5 seats at the electorate and still refuses to pass this, this and that through the senate once the greens hold the balance of power we will vote for you. She is a terribly divisive woman and the three roosters who now seem to innocuous and boring will reveal themselves as the vicious political animals they really are should Gillard make a real play for the leadership.

If Rudd wins the election and he doesn't only just limp over the line there will be a lot of "how silly we were to doubt him" sentiment which will buy him at the very least a years grace. Even then a lot of the old Beazley guard will quite simply prefer a Rudd premiership to a Gillard one and if they think Rudd's leadership is not tenable, one of them will throw their hat in the ring themselves. I favour Smith but Swan and Shorten also have very powerful friends and allies in the ALP.

You've got no fucking idea what you're talking about. Gillard has the entire left as a voting bloc and only needs to pull over ~20% of the right, the vast majority of which are swayed by Rudd's ignoring the Unions.

You are wrong. She has most of the Ferguson left in check and there are some there who are cynical about her as well but the Socialist left faction are very divided about her. Tanner is probably the most prominent socialist lefty who won't vote for her but he's not the only prominent one and wields considerably influence in his own faction. Jenny Macklin supposedly does not like Gillard either and Anthony Albanese has similar clouds over his own head. You are deluded I'm afraid.

Slidey my friend I must concede that you were right about Bishop. I insist that up until this week she had never done anything to quite justify the slack she cops but this week was just the dumbest or dumbness we've seen since Tony Abbott called Bernie Banton a sook.

Abbott must be absolutely fuming with her.

I dunno, it strikes me as the kind of thing that in that strange, demented mind of Tony Abbott is a good thing. I dunno how, "telling it like it is, no bullshit" perhaps but Abbott is not one who has exercised great discipline and responsibility in his own career in public life.

it goes down to the question of his leadership skills and political form ie. abbott in my eyes gets no credit for opposing a mining tax when he proposes to tax business for PPL. same thing, really - massive hypocrisy but i guess that's politics for you.
