For anyone wondering here’s the formula Trump used to calculate tariffs charged on every country (minimum 10%) (according to ABC):
It will be interesting to see if Australia can avoid the potential global recession coming. The US on the other hand, Id be surprised if it avoids a long and painful recession.

i just saw an article from "The Hill" (I think they might be center-left ?)
apparently a new poll puts trump at his lowest approval yet

could be clickbait but i doubt it? I wonder how large the poll was

His polls are fluctuating. For all the negative press, Trump has succeeded at cracking down on illegal immigration which is quite popular. Now, I disagree with the manner it has been done (i.e. the utter lack of compassion and due process) and dont think that it will quite solve America's problems as much as people think. However, it is popular with the electorate and he is delivering on this issue. So some polls are reflecting that.

50% is insane
oh to be a stupid rich old white man
50% is the “half price discount” trump’s giving everyone cause he’s nice. The fraction on the left supposedly is able to spit out the correct tariff rate “including currency manipulation and trade barriers” that countries are charging the US, and they’re retaliating with a 50% discount

the thing is I don’t see how that formula is accurate, cause any country that sells more to the us and or buys less is cooked like Cambodia

yeah basically they’re taxes charged to another country for the things they sell to another country. So for example for Australia there’s a 10% tariff, so for everything we sell to the us, we pay 10% extra. This means that we might sell less to the us, and thus the main objective of the tariffs is to create more jobs and manufacturing within America. However due to the drop in supply of foreign goods, and the lack of pre-existing American competition, this is likely to drive up prices in the us for the short term at least until there is more competition in America as companies move to the us to avoid the tariff

okay but wont other countries just tariff them back and start world war 3
It depends, you don't have to reciprocate the tariffs, often countries do but not always. I think most countries will respond in a measured and calculated manner. Where Trump will lose is he has filled his government largely with yes people. Whereas a lot of other countries will have more competent/capable policy wonks who may be able to strike the USA back much harder. People love to bash down on "experts and bureaucrats", but Id generally back people who have skills and experience over those that dont.

oh
but anyways america has a 50% tariff on canada (which is the first thing mentioned in this thread lmao)
trump is just stupid in a smart way; he gets richer and we get poorer (once america goes down we all go down since american economy is the 'backbone' of the world)

the only ppl that will never be affected by whats going on in america are the wealthy (im talking abt american citizens)
they'll just keep getting richer and richer from the whole thing let alone the fact america is a capitalist so regardless of what trumps is doing they wouldve been getting richer anyways trump is just speeding up the process

i just want to know what triggered the whole thing? ukraine vs russia? china? north korea? israel vs palestine? thats something im not sure of (i mostly think its bc of ukraine vs russia lowkey but its just a thought)
