What's your understanding of the HSC mark's effect on the assessment? As a teacher, I've been told that the HSC marks basically get re-arranged into the order based on assessment, then given out as the assessment marks, so if a group gets a top mark of 95 than the first person would get 95 for assessment and so on... This is why the actual mark for assessment you get from school doesn't really matter, its the HSC mark and your position in your school group.

you're a teacher.. you should know fully

but yes that is right, all hsc marks are determined with performance in the actual hsc exam, the "50%" only counts for the relative rankings determined through school assessment, not the actual over assessment mark

And also the gaps between ranks.

You have the general idea, but the relative gaps (standard deviations) are also taken into account.
