When the BOS moderate the assesment marks, do they have to be evenly distributed say a gap of four between each person, if so it doesnt make a difference how close or how big the gap is between assesment marks sent in by the school right?

Do the gaps between people in the marks the school sends into the BOS make any difference or does it all go on ranks?

if someone finishes 3rd overall in an assesment ranking and are ranked 4th in the external do they recieve the external mark of the person who finished 3rd as there assesment mark?

Can people coming last in assesment rankings have an affect on other people, if they come last in the external aswell?

No they do not have to be evenly distributed. And yes the relative differences between the marks sent in matter. Thus there is a difference between coming 2nd by 1 mark and coming 2nd by 50marks.

This can sometimes be the case. However it does not have to be. They do not just hand out the exam marks as moderated school assessment marks.

What the BOS does is they change the raw school marks so that the mean of the school marks matches the mean of the exam marks, and also so that the max mark of the exam mark, matches the max moderated school mark. See, http://www.boredofstudies.org/wiki/index.php?title=UAI:Moderating.

This depends by how much they are last in the school assessment and the exam. If in the school marks a person comes last by a lot, and then in the HSC exam they come last by a lot, then there is not much impact. If however a student does good in the school assessment (i.e. up along with most others), but they gain significantly poor exam mark compared with their peers, then the peers would be adversely affected in their school assessment marks.
