I've been reading around a lot lately and I seem to be seeing that graduate Engineers seem to be getting paid in the 60-70k range, is that true? Because that salary sounds pretty poor.

Will getting a Masters Degree significantly increase the amount earned?

Is 65k even a lot of money?

I dont know about everybody else, but if I was able to earn that kind of money as a Graduate I wouldnt be complaining one bit. For some reason, people seem to think that the minute you graduate with a degree you are earning a ton of money. It doesnt work that way, for most professions you need to work your way up before you start earning the big money. It's even the same in Medicine - you dont start making hundreds of thousands of dollars the minute you get your degree, it takes a few years to get to that point.

65k grad salary is good. Masters or post grad stuff is not something that would usually be recommended straight away - especially in Eng. If you are chasing a high salary just do an MBA part time after working a few years.

Mate, the median graduate salary across all industries is about 55k. Getting a 60-70k starting salary is not poor lol, in fact it is at the upper end on par with some graduate bankers and some graduate lawyers. If you want the big bucks then get out of Sydney and move into the mines of WA lol.

Also, keep in mind that generally the higher the salary the more competitive it is get into the position. The graduate jobs that pay 80k or above often attract some of the best candidates you have ever seen in your life.

If engineering was well paid, frankly I'd still be be an engineer. It's a great job. However, the truth is there's more money in selling the equipment than there is in designing it. This is despite selling the equipment being far less technical, and far easier.
