Those apparatus showed different properties for light.
Maltese Cross apparatus showed that Cathode Rays travelled in straight lines. This is a property of both waves and particles.
Magnetic and Electric deflection plates only affect charged particles, NOT electromagnetic waves. This shows that Cathode rays are charged particles.
The light paddle wheel showed that Cathode rays have a physical momentum. In HSC Physics this is a property of particles only (it actually is a property of light but in a different manner but this is not in HSC).
From the above we can deduce that:
Cathode rays are charged particles that travel in straight lines, carrying a momentum.
Depending on the direction of which the Cathode rays deflect by electric and magnetic plates, we can deduce whether they are negatively or positively charged particles.
To determine if they are electrons, the charge to mass ratio is required, which can be deduced by using a set strength on the magnetic field and electric plates.
By determining the charge to mass ratio and looking at the way the cathode rays deflect, then we can deduce that cathode rays are electrons.
