I have to do a speech on "how and why the values of the original text have been maintained and/or changed to reflect the new context"

My original text is Shakespeare's play Romeo and Juliet

New context is Baz Luhrmann's Romeo & Juliet (1996)

So basically i have to consider how the original play has been appropriated into popular culture.

Anyone have any advice on techniques done by Luhrmann to represent ideas/values etc....? Anything would be appreciated

Baz Luhrman:

-Over-dramatises, with high tempo classical music and guns to appeal to an international audience.

-Keeps the language traditional.

-Made the film more Mardi Gras and gay in culture.

-Truncated the story to parts that he found relevant.

Those are some notes I had in an extension assignment I had earlier in the year.
