It's worth pointing out that most of the 'left' doesn't actually identify hard socialists (i.e trots) as being 'left' because of their authoritarianism and this makes a discussion on the left's view of Israel inherently problematic if they're what you're focusing on (and the students for Palestine groups are often trot filled). I personally identify as much further left than the trots but have much more functionality on this issue and others - the left in general is made up of a number of movements who, regardless of their basic consensus in mainstream media representation, are as incompatible with each other as left is to right.

There is.

I know a number of people who did their phd on them and the cult-like structures of trot groups (and others). You can find some books at Fisher Library on them too, I think. If you sit in conversation and ask the trots how their day is they'll give answers like: 'I'm so upset because Abbot did xyz' as if their life doesn't extend beyond their politics plus all of their friends are other trots, their room mates are trots and so on.

It's worth noting, though, that Socialist Alliance are slightly different to the other trots - Socialist Alternative and Solidarity - because Alliance types will at least do things like have sex, go dancing, read fiction and watch True Blood every now and then. Not the other two.

FTR I think this is actually quite an interesting topic and agree that it is very sad that wing of politics that claims to represent the fight against bigotry etc has allowed this abominable prejudice to become ingrained in it's culture, but I'm not gonna bother because I know how this will have been gotten at by trolls, anarchists, Larouchites and the like.
