Would animal farm be a good related text for this module? My prescribed text is Brave New World :)

Obviously it's really close to Brave New World thematically. But given that Animal Farm is commonly studied in years 9 and 10 in a lot of schools, it's best to choose a more challenging text. You want to demonstrate to markers with your choice of related text that you have been looking beyond the school syllabus, and that you are engaging with challenging texts.
You could check out Terry Gilliam's Brazil, a film inspired by Orwell's Nineteen Eighty-Four.

Great recommendation. This is a very nice text.

You could even pick Blade Runner (from memory it is no longer in the Advanced syllabus); or even possibly Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?

Bladerunner could be an option. Markers like related texts of different mediums, so the Philip K. Dick novel wouldn't work with Brave New World. Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep would be great for Wag the Dog, Henry IV, or even the Crucible, the other texts in that Representing People and Politics elective though.

hmmm would it be a significant disadvantage do you think as schools study it in lower grades? ...........like it is so easy (so i could write a more in depth essay than a more difficult related text), so i wonder if it would still be worth choosing?

That's certainly a good reason to choose an easier text - the analogy would be choosing an easier subject which you know you'll excel at rather than doing poorly in Extension English or Maths.
One way to make your analysis of Animal Farm more substantial would be to clearly highlight the differences in Orwell's treatment of similar dystopian concerns.
