Write how much is needed to answer the question. The more the marks, the more in length of your response.

For the big one, like the historical period study worth 25 marks, I'd go for at least a booklet (8 pages) and maybe a half or more. Just remember to not go over board and to divide the time evenly with all the sections. 40 minutes is allocated to each section, so whatever you can write in each section in 40 minutes is how much you should write, really.

to get good marks in ancient you kinda have to go over the spaces provided... like, for my Pompeii half-yearly, for the 10 mark question, i wrote a page over the required length and still only got 7, and there was no rambling involved.

um that's not really true... the space they give u suffices for a band6 (granted, if your writing is colossal then no)... u just have to ensure u write concisely and give only the necessary info for the marks they offer (which i understand is hard considering this is our hsc afterall.. i know i'm probably gonna go nuts for every question to ensure i get all the marks)

yeah i'm not very good at arguing a point :p

it does, but IMO it's extremely difficult to condense a band 6 answer that much. my teachers are strict markers, so only writing one page would get 5 marks for a 10 mark question. writing more works for me (and i always finish early anyway), so i do it anyway lol.

my teacher who judges for the HSC just says that you have to fill the spaces provided (for P/H & society) because u can get band 6s for that
for essays.... im a slow writer but i have small handwriting (8-10 words a line) but if you can get all the content in you can do some of the historical period essays in under 4 pages (A4)

but look at the exemplary for Pompeii. it goes over the lines. not by a massive amount, but it goes over nonetheless. and by all accounts, it's not even a particularly good sample; it is good considering it is under exam conditions, but the person doesn't even talk about the source aside from a brief mention. thus i believe writing more is beneficial to your marks.

no the space given is more than enough for ur answer to be band 6. It all depends on how concise u r on getting to the answer
