hey guys,
on many of the general discussions for subjects after the hsc exam for the year
I see people saying band 6 cut-off is for example 77
is this with scaling or without????

Many people referring to cut-offs are talking about the raw mark they think that will obtain that mark.

So 83 raw last year for Physics was the band 6 cut-off for a 90 aligned mark.

Scaling is something different which only refers to the aggregate obtained to give you a final ATAR.

so tell me if i understand this rite...
so the aligned mark is the assessment mark you get...and the internal marks are based on ur rankings + moderation
and they find the average of the two and then that mark is scaled towards your atar????

Exam marks are aligned by BOSTES to report a mark that equates to a band

Internal assessment marks are moderated to the exam marks

Aligned exam marks and moderated internal marks are then averaged to get the final HSC mark.

Final marks are scaled by UAC for ATARs

Also, the marks your class obtains as a whole for examination marks is roughly equal (only discrepancy is rounding errors when you get HSC marks, but your ATAR is calculated based off raw marks and includes decimals I think) to the amount marks your class obtains for assessment marks, which are then moderated according to rank and difference between ranks.
