This is a spin-off from the africa thread, it got me to google some stats. Anyway in sub sahara Africa these are some of the statistics.
5% of the total population has HIV/AIDS
26% of Swaziland has HIV/AIDS
Even South Africa the most modernized country has a massive AIDS rate.
My discussion questions are:
1. What is the biggest reason for such widespread AIDS in Africa compared to other continent.
2. Short of finding a cure, what is the most effective way of controling and reducing this rate over the next 80 years (4 generations).
3. What should be Western policy in relation to AIDS managment.
All stats can be varified at
http://www.avert.org/subaadults.htm
Also how does stigma effect AIDS. Personally I know one person that is HIV poitive and i actively avoid contact with them out of paronia. Even though i know that the virus won't jump out and infect me, I still feel extremely uncomfortable being around them, yet i still feel horrible that I can't control my discrimination.
Please don't let this turn into a religion bashing thread and don't flame me for my honest opinion in relation to stigma.
