my half yearlies are coming up and in the half yearlies we can prepare our essay. we have a choice of two questions which are Evaluate the view that Bolshevik power was consolidated only because Lenin modified comminist ideology in the period 1917-1924 or Was the policy of war communism a pragmatic response to civil war and foreign intervention or an attempt to construct a communist.

its meant to be a 1000 words does anyone have any advice on which one i should do and which question i should do or just any general advice :p.

its really up to you both are good questions and by studying up on and composing a response to them u can come up with solid content worthy of any essay no matter what the question.

Unless of course u're saying that these are the two questions u can choose to write an essay on in the exams. I think that the question about lenin modifying communist ideology is a better question though cause there's lots more to talk about; u could mention
-the closing of the constituent assembly which was an attempt by the Bolsheviks to suppress the political voices of the other Socialist parties (deviation from as Lenin wanted his Bolsheviks to be the only party capable of instituting political change)
-Red Terror (removal of so-called "anti-Russian elements" in Russian society, this included other Socialists such as Mensheviks)
-lenin's backflip with the NEP

I might have left something out but hope it helps

the second one is better imo. the question allows you to give a more sophisticated response and evaluation.

u shouldn't need historian quotes to get top range marks the HSC markers have stressed that they're not necessary to accessing that top band. But if ur looking for readings by historians then check out the work of Sheila Fitzpatrick. Otherwise the textbook "Key Features of Modern History" or even ur own school textbook should suffice. U don't need to go all over the interwebs looking for historian quotes
