hey there
to all you past hsc'ers is ext 1 english very very hard. im just worried that being in or choosing an ext subject your standards should be alot higher. i am good at english though. cause i know that for ext maths you have to work hard and study heaps and you will be ok, i was jus wondering whether or not its similar or do you have to be smart at english to do ext

hope wat i said made sense :)
thank you

IMO, none of the Extension courses are "very, very hard" but in order to do well, you'd have to be doing fairly well in Advanced English. The difficulty of the course varies, because there are different electives to study. Not everyone studies the same thing and each elective has its own level of difficulty.

If you can write a solid and well structured essay, understand and analyse texts very well and can be creative - It's easy. I personally found the Extension courses a lot easier than Advanced English.

Good luck. :)

well, prelim ext eng was really fun actually :D

we had 7 people in our class last yr lolz

yes, its like a new, sophisticated, interesting world that you can escape to.

On the other hand, advance english was such a drag, its usually>>

skills e.g. short answers and crap

and when answering essays or so, its "what" and "how" and the "effect"

but now, since you're going to enter the prelim ext eng stage,

its the "what" , "how" "effect" and "why"

there's more research for contextual references, values, interpretations, and a lot of other stuff

if you're doing the alien self/gothic stuff>>awesome modules xD

creative writing is okay.

you dont need to be that "intellectual", as long as you're well-informed of your texts, and how to respond to them, i'm sure you'll be fine. it would be best if you love books too.

teachers will either lecture/expect you to write more "sophisticated", "succint" and "intellectual"

i think thats it :D

It's not really that simple, but because the work load isn't much, when compared to Adv. English and you only have five classes per fortnight - It seems as though it is. :)

I would also point out that you should really have a passion for the subject if you want to go well in Ext English (or any extension subject for that matter). I was pressured into doing Ext English in Yr 11 (seeing as I came 2nd in English in Yr 10) but no way was I going to 'extend' a subject that I despise.
