Advanced Belonging Related Material... HELP!!! (1 Viewer)

The core text I'm currently doing is Romulus, My Father, and I'm thinking of doing Chinese Cinderella as a related. Do you think it's a good idea to continue with Chinese Cinderella? One of the english teacher's told one of my friends that it was too simplistic, that she should choose something else, but my teacher said that it is a suitable related, provided that I "critically analysed" it rather than just "analysing" it. What do you think? HELLPP!!

I think there is a line between choosing a very simplistic text and choosing some artsy text to somehow impress your markers. I read Chinese CInderella about six years ago, I think it is quite explicitly related to belonging/perhaps a little simplistic, but if you could draw deep analysis out it could be OK. It helps to like your related texts too

What impresses your markers is you textual analysis. The text in itself is not so important, but a text that works well with the module/belonging theme and complements or contrasts your prescribed text is good.

Like what your own teacher and LoveHateSchool are suggesting, the crucial part is your analysis. Texts may seem simplistic, but every picture book, short story or novel has a purpose or meaning behind it. Chinese Cinderella may be written for younger audiences, but there are still complex underlying issues involved. It is your ability to critically analyse such issues/texts and discuss more complex ideas of belonging, that will allow you to attain excellent marks. It's not an issue if you are able to do so.
