can this be done to any car?

would there be any significant performance gain to a 1.5L engine putting out 80kW and 141Nm of torque

anyone know of any websites / places where i can get a quote? ...or anyone know the general cost?

do i have to upgrade other components if i want a turbo? eg...exhaust?

any info would be aweeeesome1.!.

:)

dont listen to 7th sign.
in a few months, they may bring out a turbo conversion kit (doubt it)
then u would need to get it enginerd, usually bigger brakes because of the increased power, u would need to up grade many of the internals to cope with the power increase, an the heat increase. usually a intercooler will do the trick.

my cousin has just bought a turbo conversion for his 3cyl 1L diahatsu charade flat back. an it goes likee the clappers. puts many other stock cars to shame.
but he is a mechanic, so he has tuned it to perfection

you cant just slap on a turbo and think you've got a turbo

you have to upgrade ur engine internals, forged pistons etc etc.

not worth doing it up on a toyota yaris.

isnt the yaris ment to be a full efficient car?

Very expensive, you would need:
Turbo
Exhaust manifold
Dump pipe
Intercooler
New engine internals
New engine management system

yeah there would be a performace gain, i estimat e about 30% in your car, but it would cost alot, the only reason doing it to a yaris would be like too lazy said, make people think your car is a little shit box, go someone at the lights. and knock off a wrx. Gawd that would be funny

the only reason you would turbo a shit car is if
a) you are a mechanic and are doing it for the fun of it
b) you have alot of money to throw around

Haha how lame. Its prity hard to look cool in a charade no matter what you do to it

he just needed a run-a-bout car to get from work, to home in
he is currently building a 49 chev, an when this engine with the turbo came up at his work for a stupidly low price. he jumped at it. it's just a car that we all thrash the balls off. belive me its no piece of art, its a hunk of shit

If you run low psi (7-8) you can get away with cast pistons, regular valves, crank, etc (stock engine internals) - this means high offboost performance due to higher comp ratio. So there the cost goes down.

Problem is you need totally new injection and spark maps, with larger injectors - and there goes the fuel economy - and you will still be beaten by a run of the mill $5000 car - whereas just the buildup of the engine might cost you that much.

It would be cheaper to supercharge it, you know. Far less parts required. A guy on Autospeed magazine (Google it) supercharged his Toyota Prius (all 40 or so kW) and he got some quite good results in everyday driving.

Edit: On a scale of 1 to 10, where 1 is a backyard oil change and 10 is a professional engine swap and rebuild, this is a definite 9-10.

Don't be so quick to judge. I agree with 7th_sign to a certain degree. Everyone wants to impress someone else and putting a turbo in a yaris and in the process, spending thousands more on engine adjustments, probably isn't the best option IMO. The performance gain would be far to small for the cost of the changes. Besides, the yaris is probably one of the pussiest cars currently on the road and many people will think you're a twit if you put a turbo in it.
