I plan to study Actuarial Studies at either ANU, Macquarie, UNSW or University of Melbourne. I was just wondering what is the best uni to study Actuarial Studies is? Could you give me your opinion of your rankings of these 4 unis in terms of Actuarial Studies from best to worst?

Thanks

Well one thing I can say is, MQ established the first actuarial studies program in Australia and was the first to be accredited by an institute of actuaries.

It has a well established course, if you do the course at MQ you are going to be enrolling in a specialist course designed to be accredited by the IIAust, meaning if you want to transfer to another degree it may be a bit hard to do. So if you sure you are going to pursue something within the actuarial field (includes traditional and non-trad) then I suggest you go to the other universities. I believe UNSW is flexible with this major

Not sure about the others

I don't mean to be rude but if you did a search you'll find a million threads regarding the same issue.

Plus its virtually impossible for one student to rank the unis since they've only been to one.

The truth is it's really not that much different between the universities, you should probably worry about logistics more thanthe so called ranking.

between UNSW and mac I would choose UNSW though.. it affords you more flexibility to change

i hear macquarie is quite renowned for acturial studies, moreso than uni's like UNSW. i know people who got like 99+ uai and decided to do acturial studies at macquarie instead of doing commerce at UNSW (which UNSW is internationally renowned for) and major in acturial.

1. Mac
2. UNSW
3. Melb
4. Anu

Change your preferences to 1. UNSW 2. Mac if you get offered a Co-op scholarship at UNSW.

I am sure that ANU and Melbourne are last.

Trust me.. don't listen to BS about which uni is better in teaching this particular subject, in the end you get the same recognition for part 1 and no one cares about where you did it.

Think about other things.

Another thing you can do is to take accounting and do actuarial exams outside

Might want to do something like statistics or mathematics rather than accounting. Since it'll be more relevant to actuarial.

Macquarie Grad:

Having worked at the number one actuarial firm in the country, I can say that employers do care. It doesn't matter as much as personality and fit - but ceteris paribus, certain actuarial degrees are valued more than others.
