referring to Q3 Part A (i) and (ii), it says that the common mistakes were people multiplying P1 and Ph2 by 1.2 instead of dividing by 0.8 and similarly multiplying by 51/50 instead of 50/49

i made that mistake, but i dont understand why it is that we divide by 0.8 and multiply by 50/49... it seems to be different from the lecture eg's and tutorial hw

help please?

thanks

Well the point is that you have to be able to multiply the larger number by 0.8 and still get the lower one.

If i remember it correctly from memory the number was 12 and the failure rate was 20 %?
12 * 1.2 = 14.4, but 14.4 * 0.8 gives 11.52
So this way is wrong.

But if you do: 12/0.8 = 15 ! And if you check it the other way, 15 * 0.8 = 12
This way is right. I think.

Simplest way to think about it, is to just check your answer by working backwards after you've gotten it. You should get back to the same number as you had before.

x + 0.8 = 15
x = 15/0.8 to make sure you have enough

I didn't think it was too bad, but I couldn't really fill the writing spaces for the discussion questions, I mean how many times can you say goal-congruent behaviour for 3 marks?

that practice mid sem was a waste of time. they normally make the actual exam similar to the practice Qs but then they added random shit in the actual exam!

They did warn us in the announcement that the questions would be quite different. But yeah, I didn't expect it to be that much
