Would a Tony Abbott government be able to afford to scrap the carbon tax but keep its associated assistance packages? Please state yes or no, with facts to back up your case. Tony Abbott has promised to keep Labor's tax cuts and pension increases provided as compensation for the carbon tax.

I think Tony Abbott can't afford to keep the carbon tax compensation should the carbon tax be removed because it is too costly. Abbott is not an economic conservative because his election promises are turning the Australian federal election into a giant auction. Good riddance to Tony Abbott.

they'll probably end up dumping some other welfare measure like back to schools money, baby bonus, kids rebate stuff in their first year instead of raising taxes. Raising taxes affects way too many people who see it in their bank accounts every week/month.

Yes he's able to. Because he will find the savings as he has already stated in his budget reply.
