I have been thinking about the whole feminist movement lately... Although equality is great, why do so many woman out there expect to be wined and dined to make feel like a princess? Sure, I have been out of a 4 year relationship for 6 months, but I still can't stand the idea of girls expecting to have drinks bought for them. Not all women do, but some. And every time I experience this, I find it to be so distasteful and disrespectful to women as a whole.

Does anyone else see where I'm coming from? Why don't women feel the "need" to buy a drink for me? ;) haha.
You're a bit of a stinge if you're annoyed at the fact that you have to pay for drinks...in general, women earn 20% less than men when doing the same job...I doubt that a few drinks will equal the 20%...

I'm not saying that women should and have the rights to expect being pampered...but you've been in a relationship, it's not like you don't enjoy treating your ex well.

I think it also have to do with egos...it's kinda built into the society of how men should behave.

Personally...I do believe that women are there to be treated well...but just don't give that love to someone who isn't grateful for it, that's the hard bit...i'm still searching =)

I don't think its that women want to be princesses but equal..

In the begining, it started with 'we want to be treated eqully'...but as time went on and society and governments didn't act, women were/are forced to ask for more, in hope that at least maybe one of their new pleas will be answered.

The longer it takes to acheive equality and the less that is done about it, the more things women are going to ask for.

haha...yeah...i was gonna say 18%...but just rounded up...

can't say i remember it exactly...but it was from TIME that i read that...in some industry such as sales...women only earn 60% of what men earn...

on a stupid note though...

women in the adult industry earn like 400% what men earn...so avg wise...(400+60)/2: women earn 230% of what men earn...

how is that 20% less for doing the same job?

it's less on average, which just means there's less women in high paying jobs overall than there are men

there really aren't any jobs that pay men more than women for the same work, it's illegal ffs
will is right (i stand corrected - just tired). The stats never say that it is the same job, just in the same area.

you do realise that's only true if there's as many people in porn as there are in sales, right?

WHAT?

Do you not do finance or something like that? That only works if the two industries are balanced in numbers.

(Re: what shakespeare said)

Also to OP: askmen forums are pretty chauvinist iirc. You're going to have a pretty warped idea of gender dynamics if you frequent their forums and read puff pieces written by authors of 'The Game' et al.

Its not that simplistic, and woman
You're right, it's not that simplistic. But as a result of affirmative action employers are looking to hire at least 50% women, even where there may be significantly less than 50% women entering the field.

Still, there are protests as to the number of men in senior managerial positions versus women... when most of those men have been in place since before affirmative action had it's impact, and thus their standing has no reflection on the opportunities available to women now... when they retire, they'll be replaced 50/50

and THEN there's that if you're hiring people at a 50/50 rate, it's going to take until everyone in the workforce a decade ago has retired for there to be equal proportions of men and women in the workplace...

and then there's that there still mayn't be 50% women, so really all we should be shooting for is proportionately even distributions... i.e. if only 15% of lawyers are female, don't expect more or less than 15% of partners to be female....

I suppose you could say I think feminism has had it's day. Once important, now redundant for all but (I spose) keeping the progress on track.

Yeah, I know... That's why I posted it here too. Different forums attract different types of individuals, so I like to have multiple sources. ;)

Even the 50/50 rule is bogus. Let's say there are 10 jobs available and 15 applicants are male and 5 are women... So, all 5 women are going to get the job??? This whole "movement" seems to be very counterproductive in the grand scheme of things.

Unlikely. Most women do not have that mix of creativity, hunger and constructive logic as the males have. Many businesses owned and/or run by a single female tend to have their boardrooms filled with men anyway.. because men in boardrooms, or men in running the show = prosperity and growth.

Women filling boardrooms = Stagnation. And possibly debt and even death.

I usually pay, with friends as well as dates. i guess i probably do it more with girls, but even when i am out with just male friends i usually buy a round or two. Someone i know believes you are paying for the company, they might not have all that much money, so you [generously] pay for things they otherwise wouldn't have so they come out with you and you get to go out with them instead of staying at home watching tv.

i think of it in terms of buying power, i have a lot of money [well not really, but a lot compared to most students and the people i see] so buying someone a few drinks is nothing to me, they have a good time, i have a better time because they are having a good time and overall everyone wins. I don't see it as my responsibility or something that i have to do, its just not a big deal to me, it wont break the bank and it [i hope] is a sign to them that i care about them, so awesome.

All that said, the gesture to in turn buy a set of drinks next, or pay for the meal next time is IMMENSELY appreciated, When the girl accepts your offer to pay but insists she pays next time and actually remembers and goes through with it, no matter who she is [friends, dates, whatever] thats really cool, especially if you know they dont have much money but they still want to in turn pay for you, its a nice warm feeling :)
