Ok so I'm doing Advanced Science first year, and probably (at the moment) want to major in something like microbiology, but am also interested in neuroscience.

So at first I was planning to do MATH1131,PSYC1001,CHEM1011 and BABS1201 in my first semester but I also want to do SCIF1121 which is only offered in semester one and looks more interesting and I've heard it's better than SCIF1131, what are my options?

I was looking through and thought that maybe i could do scif1121 instead of math1131, and then do math1131 in semester 2 year 1 and math1231 in semester 2 year 2 (instead of semester 1 year and semester 2 year one respectively as I originally thought/planned), it seems to work out but just wanted to make sure if I could do this? and if i should do this?

Thanks

You can take MATH1131 in Semester 2 and then MATH1231 in the Summer Semester. That's an option.

You can also do CHEM1011 in semester 2 and CHEM1021 in the summer semester. So it depends on which one you would rather do by itself

Hmm not sure if it's worth the hassle just to do SCIF1121 instead of SCIF1131 :/, any other options besides doing a subject in summer semester?

Also, I'm not sure if I should do MATH1131 or MATH1141?, I think it recommended a MX1+MX2 combined score of 175 or above, mine was 172 but I screwed up my MX1 exam, know I can probably do better and I'm quite interested in maths.

My MX1+MX2 was 165 but I still did MATH1141. If you know you can do better, then go for it.

I know my 165 doesn't do justice to how well I go in maths - so I took a risk, it paid off. But then again, I've seen people whose MX1+MX2 is around 190 and they fall to credits because they don't have the motivation to continue doing work.

So I'd suggest you take MATH1141. At best, it'll be a good level for you. At worst, it'll be a great challenge that'll push you to your limit.

If you're planning to accomodate for both majors for the whole year, you're probably gonna struggle a bit. Even if you do MATH1131, CHEM1011, BABS1201 and PSYC1001 in semester 1, you're gonna have CHEM1021, PSYC1011, BIOS1101, SCIF1131, MATH1231 and BIOT1011 leftover, which may have to be taken in the summer semester.

Continuing on with that:

So planning your courses is beneficial so you'll have to take some of them next year, for instance.

Hey, I was over at the advising day for science and talked to the associate dean, he said that for this year he would try to include an optional maths "module" in SCIF1131 similar to the SCIF1121 discipline-specific modules. If maths is your thing that might close the gap a bit.
