Hey everyone, my name is Russel and I have recently completed my Higher School Certificate, scoring an ATAR of 99+. In so doing, I have compiled, refined and refined again a basket of notes and expositions that would lend guidance in the subjects of English and Modern History. The following have been my pride and joys in the context of schooling and, hopefully, they will become highly useful, as they were for myself. :)

English Advanced (HSC MARK: 96)
Area of Study creative writings:
While there has been a natural transition from the AOS-Belonging to the AOS-Discovery, I am posting up both of my creative pieces that not only contain both schools of thought but also are highly malleable to suit given stimuli.

Creative #1: “A Reason For Her To Fight”
This imaginative piece has received full marks (15/15) throughout my HSC year, being commended by a senior marker for its “highly original” and “thought-provoking” exploration of a heroine who experiences bereavement.

Creative #2: “Ten Years”
This imaginative piece also received an A-ranged mark (14/15) by a senior marker and was used in the actual HSC exam. It explores the ramifications of total warfare within both the political and personal spheres and the closure that may be grappled.

Module B – William B. Yeats Poetry:
This module was, perhaps, my most challenging topic to tackle; there were periods where I would dedicate a whole day on this poet due to the complexity of both syllabus requirements and the actual texts. Due to the invested effort, this module would now have to be my strongest module up for grabs.

Contains heavy analyses of ALL required poems that demonstrates textual integrity and lexical density.

School Assessment Mark: 20/20; HSC Trial mark: 20/20

Module C – two related texts
These related texts have aided my conflicting perspective expositions, all equally serving a particular purpose to suit questions with different foci. My analyses for these texts are in body paragraph format (400 words per text), allowing full support for given prescribed text.
1. The 9/11 Address by George W. Bush
2. Veiled Censorship segment on SBS

School Assessment Mark: 19/20; HSC Trial mark: 20/20

English Extension 1 (HSC MARK: 48); Module B: Romanticism
HSC Exposition

This exposition contains a 1600+ word deeply thought analysis of the political, economic, social, philosophical and religious ways of thinking during the late 18th to early 19th centuries, particularly the movement of Romanticism.

Contains:
- Samuel Taylor Coleridge (Kubla Khan + Rime of the Ancient Mariner),
- Emily Bronte (Wuthering Heights)
- Percy Shelley (Adonais)
- Emerson's 'American Scholar'

The comprehensiveness and heavily detailed look into this module will essentially guarantee full marks (or close) if used correctly.

Half yearly mark: 25/25; Trial Mark: 25/25.

Additional Analyses ($5 and 400 words each):
• Rime of the Ancient Mariner by Coleridge
• Tintern Abbey by Wordsworth
• Ode to a Nightingale + Ode on a Grecian Urn

Romanticism Creative Writings:
• Creative #1: “Retribution”
This creative piece was awarded 25/25 during HSC trials and used for the HSC exam, exploring notably the philosophical and economic paradigms of Romanticism. This piece has been commended largely for its authentic voice and “skilful use of tension” and will ensure a top band mark.

• Creative #2: “To Exist Is To Feel”
First creative that scored 24/25. It primarily explores the social and political paradigms of Romanticism. The piece contains a non-linear narrative of a protagonist who finds inspiration to challenge established orthodoxies.

Modern History (HSC MARK: 96):
National Study: Germany
This would have to had been my BEST module, with marks of 24+/25. Contains a wealth of historiography and analyses as well as being incredibly succinct and purposeful:
