Yes. If 1000 can be done in 40, it can be done in 50-60

Idk about the average writing speed, but personally, I can do up to 1400-1500 on a good day.

Yes... it's possible.

I fit about 7-8 words on a line and paragraph about 3 times a page. For my english exam I wrote 4 pages (2 back and front) which is anywhere from 1000-1200 words. That was in 40 minutes.

In 50-60.... makes life easier.

N.B. Not the neatest writing though. But quite legible.

wow thats heaps fast. I am wondering how much you can write in 50-60 minutes. As i have a history assesment/writing task. My assesment is 1161 words long and i hav to write it in class(basically memorise the assesment), and class goes for 60 minutes but by the time the teacher comes the students get settled in that will b like 5-10mins off 60 minutes. So yea thanks for your reply! much appreciated.

I doubt you'll remember the essay word for word anyway.... in the most common case you will accidentally/unintentionally/subconsciously shorten the essay in your mind (whether you skip a point or just change the wording).

It'll probably end up shorter and you'll be able to pump out the essay in 50 minutes.

last year when i did the hsc, teachers were suggesting 800-1200 words in 40 mins and 1200-1500+ words in an hour

i personally managed 1800 in an hour, but i typed my exams

the board of studies suggests 800 for 40 minutes in most subjects, but my english teacher said that we should aim for 1200 - anything under 1000 generally does not get a band 6 mark

so for 50-60 minutes i would be aiming for 1500 words

you do get faster with practice - the most i did was 1300 words in 40 minutes but it depends on how well you know your work and the question that will be asked, so in the HSC i'd probably write less

Yes, it varies from kid to kid, but the HSC have often said that the ‘average’ word count is 1050 for 40 minutes. This doesn’t mean that writing more will get you more marks, or writing less will get you less marks. In fact, the girl that came second in English Advanced two years ago, only wrote 890 words for her Module A, yet she scored the best possible mark for it.

Hence, to answer your question - it is very possible to write 1000 words in 50 minutes. If you want an indication, I wrote about 1400-1500 words in 50 minutes, and about 1650-1750 words in an hour for the exams I just had at the end of last term. Quality wise however - they were shit - so it doesn't mean much at all :p

If I could type my exams (or at least chose to), I know I would probably easily surpass 2000 words in 40 minutes. But typing I would make more spelling errors because you go so fast you usually tend not to pick up on them as much.

I can write 800-900 words in 40 minutes, and even then it's quite illegible. It's mainly because I get nervous in exams and my hand shakes. Luckily, this doesn't affect my speed in subjects like Maths and Physics.

I write around 1400-1500 in 50mins so 1100 words in 50-60mins would be quite easy for me.

However, it varies from person to person and you should concentrate on quality, not quantity :)

Oh yeah, definitely.

How much of it is quality and logically constructed though, is the main issue.

in my last english assessment task i underestimated the speed of my hand writing.....i had a prepared 1000 word essay and i ended up finishing it in a little over 30 min so i had to sit there for 10 min just reading over my essay a million times....not a good feeling when u see everyone else still writing :mad1:

im still happy though cos i came 2nd :)
