I have a friends who’s dad is marking for a subject they did, it’s just they can’t personally mark ur hsc but they can mark everyone elses
bruh how is that allowed. i thought it wasn't

cant the dad just mark everyone else slightly worse to make his sons marks 'appear' better, hence his son would get higher atar??

They're most likely marking papers from an entirely different school - so it won't really affect the son

not really he’d get locked out of the system for incorrectly marking a sample response eventually

dont they start marking samples before the hsc tho? in the end hsc markers know what they're looking for, could the son not get intel prior to the hsc? i think im just overthinking this lmao

not how it works buddy
i mean that is how it works.

if he marked everyone else a tiny bit harsher (so it wasn't too noticeable), knowing that he would never mark his son, the raw and aligned marks for all students he marked would be slightly lower than otherwise.
Hence, the scaling for the subject will be slightly higher, hence correcting everyone else marks to an extent, but his son would profit from it.

I know the difference is so minuscule, but the dad could make a difference if he wanted to. (i.e. "hmmm im not sure weather to give this random kid 4/7 or 5/7. lets give him 4/7 as he's my son's competition")
